Hirao Lab — Forest Biodiversity & Community Ecology

The Hirao Lab, based at the University of Tokyo Forests, conducts research on nature-based solutions. Based on ecological principles, we are working on a wide range of research themes related to biodiversity conservation, restoration of ecosystem functions, wildlife management, and climate change mitigation and adaptation in the Chichibu Mountains, where a pristine natural environment remains, and the Tama Hills, where the original landscape of satoyama remains, as well as in other mountainous regions throughout Japan.
